Course Overview
The Advanced Breast Implant Reconstruction Course is designed for breast surgeons seeking to expand their expertise in implant-based breast reconstruction.
Combining reconstructive planning, implant technology, hands-on simulation, case-based discussions, and real surgical videos, the program connects clinical decision-making with practical surgical skills.
Led by Gustavo Zucca, MD, PhD, and Jean-Claude Schwartz, MD, PhD, the course provides a focused, interactive environment where surgeons can deepen their understanding of implant-based reconstruction and translate surgical concepts into practical strategies.

- Understand how anatomy, tissue characteristics, oncologic treatment, radiation, risk factors, and patient expectations influence reconstructive planning.
- Explore skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy principles and how mastectomy technique and flap quality affect reconstruction.
- Understand implant technology, sizing, projection, profile, tissue expanders, and device selection according to patient anatomy and reconstructive strategy.
- Develop strategies to anticipate, recognize, and manage complications throughout the reconstructive process.
- Compare direct-to-implant reconstruction with tissue expander-to-implant approaches, including indications, limitations, and decision-making.
- Explore reconstructive planes, implant coverage, soft-tissue considerations, and the factors involved in selecting each approach.
Course Program
Topics include patient selection, mastectomy and reconstruction, implant technology, tissue expanders, direct-to-implant reconstruction, two-stage reconstruction, prepectoral and retropectoral approaches, surgical adjuncts, complications, perioperative management, and case-based discussion.
A practical surgical laboratory using specialized Mastotrainer™ simulators designed for mastectomy and implant-based breast reconstruction.
Participants work through the reconstructive process step by step in small groups with faculty guidance.
Real surgical videos bring the theoretical and practical concepts together through step-by-step analysis and faculty discussion.
Cases include direct-to-implant reconstruction, tissue expander reconstruction, expander-to-implant exchange, and complex reconstruction.
