Gustavo Zucca Mattes, MD, PhD, is an Italian-Brazilian breast surgeon specializing in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery. He completed advanced training at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, followed by a scholarship at Baylor University in Houston, supported by Avon International.
As Head of the Breast Department at Barretos Cancer Hospital, he founded the world’s first Oncoplastic Surgery Training Center (CTO), where more than 60 surgeons were trained over a decade. He holds a PhD and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in breast surgery at UNESP Botucatu. He is also a published author and invited speaker at national and international medical meetings.
Since 2020, he has integrated lifestyle and integrative medicine into his surgical practice. Today, together with Jean-Claude Schwartz, MD, PhD, he is advancing international training in oncoplastic breast surgery in the United States, with a focus on surgical education, collaboration, and innovation.
Every surgeon we train carries that knowledge back to their community, influencing the lives of hundreds of women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Our commitment extends beyond teaching surgical techniques. We develop clinical judgment, encourage innovation, and promote a comprehensive approach that integrates oncologic safety, reconstruction, and aesthetic outcomes.
By educating one surgeon, we help improve the care of countless patients around the world.
